We are in our final stages of testing and commissioning of the refurbished Moorfields Eye Hospital department at St George’s Hospital.
The following is a summary of the work involved in this refurbishment project:
LTHW Heating
The existing LTHW heating serving the area was completely stripped out to allow for new pipework to be installed to suit the new the locations of the new radiators within the department.
Domestic Water Services
The new domestic water services have been extended from the existing piped services located in the corridor risers and runs to serve the new wash hand basins, sinks, WCs and slop hoppers etc throughout the ward areas and theatres.
VRF Heating/Cooling Systems
The new ward areas and ancillary rooms have been installed with a new Mitsubishi VRF simultaneous heating and cooling system.
Ventilation Services
The existing ventilation systems were stripped out entirely. The new operating theatres have been installed with new packaged air handling units. The AHU’s are located on the 6th floor roof above the theatres. The AHU’s are ducted to the outlet and extract grilles located at high and low level. New pressure stabilisers have been installed to maintain a constant room pressure and the AHU’s are monitored by the new BMS. The ductwork has been installed from the roof area to each of the ceiling mounted grilles located in each area. The clean utility and anaesthetics rooms have been installed with re-heaters.
The new recovery area, bed bays, injection rooms and consult rooms have also been installed with a new packaged air handling unit. The new AHU is also located on the 6th floor plantroom above the new recovery area. The new WC’s changing shower and dirty unities have been installed with a new dirty extract system. The new extract fan is to be located on the 6th floor roof plant area above, all monitored by the BMS.
A new PRV set has been installed to serve two new steam to LTHW plate heat exchangers. The plate heat exchangers serve new headers complete with primary pumps and pressurisation unit. A new constant temperature heating circuit has installed to serve the new 5th floor duct mount re-heater batteries.
Medical Gas Services
The existing medical gases have been stripped out and modified to suit the new layouts. A new departmental AVUS and alarms have been installed to serve the new ward department.
The new recovery area has been installed with two new AVSU’s complete with alarms and repeated panel located at the reception area. Further AVSU’s have been installed to serve the two new theatres, bed bays and injection room. New anaesthetic gas scavenging system have been installed for each theatre, with new vacuum plant also being installed as part of the scheme.
